About Us

Prior to the developmental stages of WTRA in 2017, Wisconsin has had many active professionals in the field of therapeutic recreation who were committed to growing the profession.

In June of 2017 a group of members from the American Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA) from Wisconsin worked to develop a chapter affiliate for the state.

A petition to become a chapter affiliate of ATRA began in July 2017. Following the approval of the petition, they worked to develop bylaws of which were approved by those who signed the petition.

Starting in January 2018, the initial board was formed. The board worked hard to get the organization off the ground and hosted an inaugural meeting in April 2018.

As of June 2018, WTRA was able to become a chapter affiliate and recruit members throughout the state of Wisconsin. In March 2019, we were able to become a non-profit organization.

As we move forward, we continue to make progress to support individuals in the field of therapeutic recreation.
